Exterior techniques in vray

So, where should I begin... Most of my projects are exterior projects and everytime I try to solve all these problems. Lighting, cameras, rendering, materials... How should I do it!

There is so many ways to do all this. What lights should I use? Normal camera or vray camera? What kind of glass-material? What kind of background? Which are the best combinations to create very high quality images?

So how YOU do it? I almost always use just directlight and vraySky, but I'm not satisfied of the result... Lighting looks quite good, but window reflections are terrible (= no reflection). :(

I would be pleased if everyone could list their own techniques, so maybe we all could learn from others workflows...

yeah i used to have the same problems.

i think these are the setting i used...im sitting at work right now

i stopped using the vray sky

vraysun mult: 1

vray physical cam settings to desired brightness

NO vray sky

environment light mult: approx 400 (yeah thats a lot)

background image in environment slot, instance to material editor, change output value of texture to approx 400 so it will show up to your physical camera.

this lets you control the color and brightness of your environment better than vraysky, i think...i never was able to make that act the way i wanted

I know it's very frustrating when someone else can nail it and you can't. I think the best way to learn vray is by trying its options. If you go to the main page of cgarchitect and click the visualization insider link on the right middle of the page. There you will find very cool tutorials and articles, some of them explaining critical settings of vray. But the hard work must be done by you my friend. The hours spent getting the look you want therefore nailing the settings, that's your call. Between you and me, that's good fun. Not to mention that you have this amazing forum to share your ideas and concerns. Good luck!
