Neil Woodhouse
Hi all, OK, I'm putting my head on the block with this one. Attached is an image which i have recently produced. The client tells me the lighting is flat. Done in V-Ray 1.5. Spherical HDRI Sky ( which as i mentioned in another thread seems to be out of proportion to the image that is in the M/Editor ) One direct light perpendicular to the camera. Rendered out it seemed over bright. Saved as a jpeg this is what came out of PS ( no adjustments ) So. What's wrong with it? How can it be improved. Trees are a mixture of Speedtree & Evermotion, fence is from Dosch. I like the shadows and i'm fairly happy with the glass, but the rest!!! you tell me. It's really starting to frustrate me. Horhe
What colour mapping are you using? Looks like exponential or reinhard with a low burn value... thus the foggy look..
Neil Woodhouse
Hi, Colour mapping is: Linear Multiply. Dark = 1 Bright = 0.5 Gamma = 1 Affect Background = on ( ticked )
BN11
Hi Neil, Not sure how you've set up your HDRI, but the background does not help your image. If I was you I would keep things simple to start with & switch off the HDRI settings, still keep the direct light with vray shadows & use a nice landscape (trees/sky) background in the max enviromental slot. Try looking at improving your textures, the brickwork map (std autodesk brick map) is way too large & the grass / paving could be better. Plenty of texture resources are available.....listed here on CG Architect Once your happy with your standard direct lighting & textures, THEN start experimenting with HDRIs....again there are many tutorials & techniques on setting up HDRIs Good Luck & keep posting your results
Tommy Burns
Yes I agree about the brickwork it is way off scale need to work on your mapping/tiling smaller bricks would make a big diff. It is really worth it to learn how mapping and tiling work properly. Things look better and you save a lot of time trying to guess it
Neil Woodhouse
Ok, Here's an upgrade. Increased the bright to 1.0 Got rid of the HDRI Reduced the size of the brick texture gone back to an old favourite grass map How's it stacking up now? e_cbautista
i like the grass and plants. the brickwork however still seems too large. i suggest using "real world scale" and adjust the map size accordingly. then use uwvmap modifier, usually "box" works. Eric Sosa
hey Neil. my suggestion: - vray sun max 0,003 shadows subv at 15 or 20 - vray enviromental ligth at 0,2-0,3 with an sligth ligth blue colour on - either standard cam or vray physical cam without focus..with focus; shooter speed at 2.0 and ISO at 200 you will get a good star render and THEN, you can try to adjust the colour mapping and HDR's after! I made a small vray tutorial explaining lumination for exteriors and interiors http://www.vray-materials.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=320 hope you can use it...good luck; Eric
