goo
Hi All I work for a building Services consultants, im one of the poor sod's that have to put up with architects constant layout changes and nagging etc.. ,(i don't think anyone's going to like me now orangeno ) Taking the above into consideration. how would i achieve the attached (very poor image created in paint) using an architects elevation in Autocad via linking(VIZ 4) Ive tried lofting, using the arch as a path and the elevation as the object, but i can't get the straight edge, i don't know how to use nurbs and as i've read some where else on this forum i guess the only way is to do it is using surfaces in autocad?. your help would be mucho appreciated, i love architects really thanks goo http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=roof.jpg
abicalho
Create the roof as you see it in the Plan View Add a Bend Modifier Choose a different axis and/or adjust the gizmo position and center You'll have your bent roof Hope it helps, Alexander
Ted Boardman
>>Ive tried lofting Guy, Alex is right, a Bend modifier should do the trick. It might be helpful to use the Grid option in the Capping area of the Extrude modifier when you create the object. Ted
Iain Denby
Add a Bend Modifier But how would you create the shape in plan with enough sub devisions so the Bend modifier works?
Iain Denby
It's probably the wrong way, but I think I would have extruded the curve (side elevation) with a few subdevisions. Put an FFD to pull out the front curve (plan View) and a Taper modifier to get the angles (plan view).
Diego Rosales
I'd boolean out the shape from a high-sudv plane. Then you have the shape with enough subdivisions for a bend to work smoothly. Else, rhino can do the trick. /Diego
Iain Denby
Yep, that works.
abicalho
How to make sure you have enough vertices in the middle? Use the Subdivide Modifier! That modifier is useful for a lot more than just Radiosity. Alexander
goo
Thanks all for the reply's and options . Though the only way I see this working is by using Dibbers example, it saves me having to remodel roof each time it gets modded (and that will be lots of times). If i'm right in thinking, using Dibbers way with file linking, when the architect revises their elevations in CAD it should automatically update the viz model(fingers crossed). I haven't tryed linking yet so i'll shall give it a good bashing out tomorrow :angedead: . Thanks again Goo
