dbibb
I have an HP dv6500 laptop with vista 32 bit. I run max 9 and 2008, vray 1.5, photoshop, and autocad 2005 on it. Autocad was the only one that was a bit tricky to set up, but a quick environment variable fixed it. I hear this isn't an issue anymore with 2007. I don't use my laptop for any heavy work, but it works great for running a small side project, or ps work while my workstation is rendering. By the way, if you use a laptop next to your workstation, check out Synergy2 http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
AJLynn
Doesn't WXGA+ mean 1440x900? That's really low res on a 17" screen. Also, which Core 2 Duo is it?
ap3
Hi AJLynn, Yes, it is 1440x900 but not quite sure which Core 2 Due? but how about this one just found from costco, current computer running 3dsmax9, photoshop cs2, autocad-04 will upgrade to 2006 & install Vray in the near future. Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.0GHz) Microsoft® Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) 2MB L2 cache 800MHz front side bus 2GB DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 1024MB); maximum capacity 4GB 320GB (5,400RPM) SATA dual hard drive (160GB x 2) LightScribe 8x DVD±RW drive with Double Layer Support 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView widescreen display; 1680 x 1050 native resolution 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS graphics Please give comment on this one too. ap3
Hey dbibb, That's exactly what i'm trying to do, while workstation is rendering i can work on other application, the new laptop as a desktop replacement by the way can i hook up with 21" monitor? Thanks for your info. Ann
dbibb
Ann, Either one of those laptops should be fine for you, depending on the size of your typical max scene. The graphics card is what will help your viewport performance. I have the geforce 8400M GS, and it works fine. You should have no problem attaching an extra 21" monitor to your laptop. If you're on a network with a domain make sure that the version of vista that you're getting allows you to connect to a domain. I know that vista business does, not sure about the others.
