Mkay
I just bought a Dell Ultra Sharp widescreen monitor. The only issue I have is that since it is a widescreen I am worried that the modeled objects will appear slightly wider than when viewed on a non-widescreen monitor. Does anyone avoid using widescreens for this reason? Is there a way to adjust the monitor to view like a non-widescreen?
CookiE
Wide screen or not they still have square pixels if you are using the right resolution so everything will still be just as square. Make sure you are using its Native resolution and you will be fine I just bought a Dell Ultra Sharp widescreen monitor. alfienoakes
You might have to start modelling all you projects with a 1.422 pixel aspect ratio, depends if your PAL or NTSC......................... Only kidding... Cookies right.. I have a widescreen, and its just that.. wider than a normal one.. thats the only difference.
montikea
I have the same question, since I returned an Acer 19" last Chrustmas because it was widescreen and no one knew how to get it to do a 4:3 ratio screen when I wasn't watching movies. I bought an Acer 20" regular screen because it was the biggest non-widescreen that I could find...for $15 more, thankfully. No one has answered the question yet...how do you reset it for 4:3 ratio? Or can't it be done? There is supposed to be a way to do this...
montikea
Answers on yahoo had this: "It's wide screen. So start investigating. You probably have these video choices (among others) 1280 X 720 1280 X 768 1280 X 800 1280 X 960 1280 X 1024 When you see various settings where the Width remains the same, but the Height is different, one of those is the proper aspect ratio for your new Widescreen. Normal would typically be 1280 x 1024 and 1280 X 800 is typical for widescreen. If you do not have these settings, then check your video card website for new drivers or software that will expand those settings. Then look for a new video card." Sounds easy enough, anyone tried this yet? I can't, I don't have a widescreen anymore.

Ernest Burden III
I own a similar LG monitor and its fantastic: http://us.lge.com/products/model/detail/computer%20products_lcd%20monitors_full%20line%20of%20lcd%20monitors_L226WTQ-BF.jhtml The specs say contrast ratio of 3000:1, but the actual monitor has a label that says 5000:1 The refresh rate of 2ms is a must for text. Mkay
Hi. I bought the 27" ultrasharp from Dell. I actually wanted 24", they were out of them, so they gave me a good price on the 27". The clarity and color seem great. Only prob. is the widescreen issue. I had a Dell guy tweak it with me. He played with resolution and scaling to get it into proportion. The only setting that was ok was to set it at 1152 x 864, but to scale it that I now have 2" on the left and right of the monitor that are blacked out / unused ("Nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio"). Seems like widescreen is not the best option. If anyone knows of any better setting where I can still use my whole screen but it doesn't skew it out of proportion, I'd love to hear about it. mnemeth
I recently received my 24" Samsung widescreen which I have set at 1920 x 1200 and it looks perfect. I love the widescreen with Max.
AJLynn
1152x864 is what I use to run my 17" CRT at. Isn't the native resolution on your monitor 1920x1200? Any decent video card should run that. You'll need to be using a DVI cable.
