shaneis
A small theatre I made for a lighting and materials test. Wall and stage drapes are supposed to be velvet/ velour. Please feel free to C&C. Maya and mentalRay, GI only (at this stage...excuse the pun )
gadzooks
Very Nice! How did you do your Curtains?
Eric Sosa
indeed, it is red with ligths around! can't see much...the render is too dark for my taste, although it looks nice and interesting.
bmcgonigle
I'm curious as to what your light setup is.
Horhe
Well you should eliminate two middle collumns of seats for communication purpouses - people should be able to pass through to their seat freely... Other than that looking forward to the finished image
Brian Cassil
I love fun projects like this where clients can't get in the way of doing something cool! As a material test I think it's a pretty good representation of velvet. from this far away there isn't too much to crit as far as that goes. It is just a little noisy in the hot spots in the upper left and right. From a composition standpoint I agree that the middle two columns of chairs should go and the stage lights that are visible in the ceiling don't look like they are doing anything. How bout turning those guys on?
shaneis
Thanks for the input folks, will update and repost shortly. "How did you do your Curtains?" NURBS - lofting between two curves. "I'm curious as to what your light setup is." Raytracing lights; spots on stage, point lights - or omnis in 3DS for the wall lights and area lights behind the pelmets. All emitting photons for GI. Next step will include final gather and pick-up some irradiance from modelled light fittings. Jakub, thanks for the seating advice, didn't think of that. The Fire Dept would agree with you there. Brian, will try some shots with the light-cans lit once I've set the rendering and materials correctly. Figured out my hot-spot problem...trying to push my area lights too far. Eric, yes it is dark. Just experimenting with levels of illumination and seeing how far we can push it before the form becomes undiscerning.
Zdravko Barisic
This could be 5stars project. keep on!
shaneis
Just a small update with a couple of subtle changes to materials, re-worked pelmet lighting and GI. Exposure and saturation tweaks in PS. Next step - geometry details and final gathering.
Horhe
Lookin nice... Have you wondered about adding a VIP sector for important guests? They could be higher than the usual seatings, so that vips could have a better view on whats going on stage. Just drew some lines for quick preview on your image...
