keyboard shortcut for folder

in windows xp, is there a way to create a new folder in the explorer with only a keyboard shorcut? for example F11, or any other shortcut. i checked the windows help and there's none for this.

You can get Total Commander to browse your hard drive - the shortcut there is F7.

As far as Windows browsing goes - if you want to create a folder entirely by keyboard you can:

 

Press the key between the right 'windows' key and the right 'ctrl' key. Then use the arrows to select -> new -> folder.

To do it with only windows and no external prog.....

 

right click on the folder and make a shortcut to it. Then drag the shortcut to your desktop, right click on the shortcut and select properties. In there you can assign a shortcut key to it. Only drawback is that if you want the shortcut key to be always available you have to leave the shortcut icon on your desktop. I don't think it works if the shortcut icon is buried in a sub-folder.

 

I've never figured out how to assign hotkeys to the actual folder itself, but assigning a key to a shortcut icon of the folder is simple.

 

Otherwise you'd have to use a third party ap.
