David Crawford
Well, I've been debating on getting back into the Architectural Viz game but wanted some feedback from the CG Community. Background: I started doing Arch Viz back in the early 90's. That's when no one was relly doing it or paying for it, at least in Ohio. I started as an architectural drafter using autocad, then moved into 3D Studio 2.0 (hated it). I then tested lightscape on the Unix platform and then started using it at version 3 on a PC. Because I was kind of good at computer stuff I completed a BS in Computer Science. I currently work as a Unix Admin but all the while doing side jobs in Web Design, 3D Viz, and Video. I've been thinking of gettnig back into Arch Viz seriously as a part-time gig but I don't know if the market is there anymore. So in my spare time I've just been getting back into modeling with 3DS Max, Maya, and Lightwave, and of course AutoCAD. And I've also been playing with my mini renderfarm service. So any feedback? Here is a small portfolio I did back in 2000, nothing really great though. http://www.apwc.ws/david I've been lurking around this site ever since it opened but I guess I'll start participating more now. Thanks for all comments.
Devin Johnston
Of course there's a market for archviz, it's probably 100 times larger than when you last worked in the field. Just about every architectural firm uses renderings and animations in their daily work; the hard part is finding these firms and convincing them to give you a shot. If I were you I'd look through the gallery on this site and try and bring my work up to that level.
