alfienoakes
Ok.. Potentially, this is gonna kill me..! I have a project that I have been working on for weeks. No problems with the renders etc, Vray 1.47, Viz 2007... nothing to worry about. Today, I rendered a selection of frames thru the animation, to check final colours, lighting etc... no problems.. So, I made a couple of changes to some mat's, and re-rendered those frames........... Now Im getting jet black frames..... Nothing on them at all. I have changed nothing.. I am rendering thru backburner etc.. never seen this before. this is a potential killer for me, as I have to get this rendering tonight.. Have cleaned out backburner using monitor, so all cleared now. restarted everything.. still doing it.. So I saved the preset render settings, changed to an old style, and rendered.. Still doing it.. Right.. I have changed back to my original settings, and have started to render out the animation to 7 machines..... frame 0 and 6 returned black, others so far look ok.. I have the drawing filelinked in from ADT, but have never seen this before.. If anyone has ANY clues as to what this is.. I would love to hear.. Cheers
BrianKitts
keep it going and see if those machines that are "blacking out" frames are consistantly doing it, or if it changes from machine to machine...That will give you a better clue as to where your problem lies. I was in the same situation before under a deadline. Remember that as you are working towards completion if you haven't solved the problem and you still have random black frames... you can just delete all the black frames, and resend the animation telling it to skip existing frames to pick up the holes. alfienoakes
Hey Brian, Very strange one this... Once I reset everything, backburner etc.. It did this again for a couple of frames on 2 machines. So I changed back to my previous render presets, and resent. I got 2 black frames, from 2 machines.. not sure if it was the same ones as before. Thought my luck was out.. then the other machines started chuckin 'em back, and they were fine. Then the two "bad" machines started throwing completed frames back..? So far.. dare I say.. it looks ok.. about 50 frames in and its looking good. One thing I did pick up thru Monitor, was that when it did a black frame, it took a fraction of the time, say 2 mins instead of 15 mins for a frame..? So very strange. Fingers crossed now...... Devin Johnston
I've had machines do the same thing on ocasion, they will start rendering a frame in a fraction of the time that it took previousley. I'm not sure what causes this, maybe they can't read the maps from the network drive or they have some issue seeing the license server and vray just stops working. alfienoakes
Luckily for me, it was the last thing I needed to do with this file.. just get the final renders out.................................. I hate being in charge of the computers at times... I have no one to shout at at times like this........
alfienoakes
I dont think I have ever got to this point but.. I am now desperate..!!!! I have copied all of the data out of the file into a brand new one, and re-run it again.. all of it.. I am STILL getting just completely blank frames.. I am lost as to what to do next.. and very quickly running out of time.. I still have a huge amount left to do, and no time left.. If anyone has any idea.. The last thing left to try, is to switch over to Vray 1.5, as we have just upgraded here at work.. That means updating all the slaves as well.. but if it works.... Any clues.. Devin Johnston
can you render any frames out on the local machines that you used to create the file?
alfienoakes
Not sure... havent had a chance to try it yet. But.. one thing I have worked out is this;if I set up my render farm but omit all but one of the slaves, I can send the whole job to the render farm. Then I have to sit and watch the first render come up on that machine. Now it seems that, as long as I only have 1 machine up, it will either render the first frame OK, or it will do one quick black frame, then be fine. I can then go round and one by one re-introduce the other machines into the farm, doing the same thing. If I have more than one machine up when I send a new job, I will probably get one of the machines galloping off doing 4 sec black frames. If I stick to the above of gradually adding and checking, it seems to work.. So I am now just nursing it thru.. as I have another 2500 frames of an internal left to do after the 1500 of the external that I am struggling with.. Only good thing is, its a completely different file.. which I hope will not do the same thing...
Devin Johnston
You've got some crazy stuff going on. You could send a compleatley different animation file to BB and see if it does the same thing or not. If it doesen't at least you'll know it's something wrong with the file your working on. alfienoakes
Thats my next move.. Its the second part of my animation.. Must say, I have used BB hundreds of times, and I have NEVER seen it do this.. Just hope it is file based and not system based.. Will know pretty soon....
