Sketchrender
After the modeling and rendering has been done, and you have to paint up the image, and sky? How many of you use a tablet for this work? phil
Horhe
Well i used a tablet only for graphics made strictly in PS. But then it broke... well it was a cheap tablet and long ago too. Im planning on investing in a Wacom but not just yet... But then again I dont paint up an image that much unless Ive got a real tight schedule and the client is breathing on my back. Then its more PS and more stylized than 3d output. Done it a couple of time turned out differently but pretty well
Brian Cassil
I have one that I use quite a bit. I manipulate the masks quite a bit, paint in/out areas of specularity, enhance or erase areas of AO and lots of other stuff that I just couldn't do without a tablet. It's a must have for me. I have the 9x12 and it suits me perfectly.
shaneis
I use a 9x12, it's my favourite piece of gear. If you learnt to draw with a pencil, you'll love it. Also very good for people with RSI - pens keep your hand and wrist in a natural position. Kind of makes sense, we've been performing fine motor skills with our fingers for a few hundred thousand years, why change things now?
Craig Ramsay
Yeah it took me a good day of solid photoshoping to get the hang of my tablet but now I love the control that it gives you. I use a Wacom Graphire 4.
Iain Denby
I can't use PS without one.
hughie
I have being using the A5 Graphire for the last few years for Max and PS, and I love it. I just bought the A4 Intous, it is an amazing tool for PS the higher DPI and buttons make it that bit more fluid to use that the Graphire. the A4 is a little too big for Max, with the A5 you can get your information down much quicker and it is small enough to transport. lyca
I always had two left hands when it came to drawing skills, but since 1 year i'm using an intuos A4, and i feel that my drawing skills are coming out :-) Really Wacom + Spacenavigator are your best friends. RyanSpaulding
I hear the Genius Pensketch is a good tablet as well.
ronll
Lyca, tell me about the Spacenavigator. Which one? What software do you use it with? How does it help? I also use a small Wacom tablet for PS, wouldn't be without it. Am I missing something by not having a Spacenavigator for modeling?

kstruve
When I transitioned from doing photo-realistic renderings to doing sketchy, hand-rendered, painterly-style renderings, getting a tablet was a necessity. I use a Wacom Intuos3 6X8 and I absolutely love it. You can pry it from my cold, dead hands. Kurt
blowback
yep. Photoshop doesn't exist without one. Brian. I would love to see a little tut on map enhancement that you described. It's something that I want to start incorporating into my work flow but I always seem to run out of time experimenting. A point in the right direction would be awsome. shaneis
...see a little tut on map enhancement that you described. It's something that I want to start incorporating into my work flow but I always seem to run out of time experimenting... Dang! I read this before I'd had my morning coffee. Interpreted it as a request for a tut on mapping your WACOM to your monitors and built this little PDF. Oh well, may as well post it. Hope it helps someone... *makes personal note to drink coffee BEFORE reading CGA posts* Look forward to your map enhancement tut too, Brian. Billabong
well the first part of your tutorial worked like a charm, but unfortunately I guess the graphire drivers dont come with an application specific option. At least i can't find it
shaneis
Glad it's been useful, Brandon. As for apps, I'm not sure if it's only in the Intuos drivers. Found this link though, http://www.wacom.com/productsupport/manual/GraphireManual.pdf there's info about the app-specific stuff on page 70 of the PDF. If you haven't got the latest drivers for your model of Graphire, I'd get them too. Make sure to uninstall all previous drivers before updating to the new ones though. Good luck.
