Brute Guy
Hi there, I'm attempting to create a disco ball texture on a complex surface in max 2008. I have a surface in rhino which I am importing into max as a .3ds file that I would like to make into a polygonal surface. I am trying to convert this surface into a poly surface so that it has square panels all over it. I can achive the correct effect when I create a sphere in max, and then uncheck the smooth option and then reduce the segment number, however I'd like this effect on a custom surface. Any help would be appreciated. BG
BrianKitts
just apply a "smooth" modifier to your object, and then in the smooth modifier's properites, turn off "auto-smooth"
Brute Guy
Hi, Thanks for the quick response, just what I'm looking for, I've tried it and the panels are a little too small, any idea how I can get these facets larger? Cheers BG
BrianKitts
you panel size is dictated by however you generated your object in it's native program before import. If you want to try to edit it after import you could try adding an "optimize" modifier and then play with it's face and edge thresholds to see if you can get a better result. I'm only guessing at what you are trying to do, a picture may help get a better answer.
