notamondayfan
layers? xrefs? see through? or you could do something like add an edit poly modifier, delete everything, and then make the modifier turn off at render time.
chow choppe
how to make a modifier appear only at render time? also if its not a single object but a group?
Matt Clementson
The easiest way would be to use Xref proxies. Make your problematic object into an Xref Object then use the proxy function to swap for something unobtrusive (like a point helper for example). Xref proxies automatically get swapped out for the full geometry at render time.
chow choppe
thanks matt but u r talking to a noob here with xrefs can u explaina little more how to convert my object in the scene to xref
chiquito
If you right click selected ogbject and go to properties, and uncheck visible, but renderable still checked, it should work.

chow choppe
how about hiding and unhiding it :? that can help but i have to do it everytime i change my view to user view to make changes in the scene and then unhide it when testing the render
Chad Warner
How about "display as box" in the object properties? That way it shows up as a box in the viewport, but renders correctly.
Matt Clementson
thanks matt but u r talking to a noob here with xrefs can u explaina little more how to convert my object in the scene to xref Actually thought of a slightly easier way using XRef scenes rather than objects. Do the following; 1) Select all the geometry that makes up the problematic object 2) Choose File -> Save Selected... from the menu and save it out as a new file 3) Delete the geometry. 4) Choose File -> Xref Scene... from the menu and add your newly saved file - you'll see that the geometry comes back in the correct position. 5a) Still in the Xref Dialogue select the file and uncheck 'visible' in the Display options - this will make your objects invisible in the viewport but still appear at render time. 5b) Alternatively you could select the 'box' option which will place a bounding box around your object if you needed a 'guide' as to where it was but not see all the detail. 6) If you need to work on the original geometry simply open up the new file and work on - any updates will automatically be shown in the file containing the Xref. Hope that helps.

chow choppe
but it is good for rendering every hidden object and not a single hidden object
mdviz
but it is good for rendering every hidden object and not a single hidden object You could freeze the objects you want to remain hidden from render and select the 'hide frozen' to keep them hidden from render in this instance. If you are still confused by X-refs put the objects into seperate layers as already mentioned. Each layer you create has a seperate "hidden in view port" check for each layer. Before any render I would save the file then delete all the objects that are not used/wanted in the rendered scene as the last operation before you submit, even for test renders. Don't work on or save the scene again afterwards just re open the saved file. This will free up/save memory, especially if submitted to a render farm. MasterZap
I don't get why "Display as Box" isn't enough in this case...? /Z
chow choppe
I don't get why "Display as Box" isn't enough in this case...? /Z actually that helped The issue was that i was using a plane for reflections in front of my building so when i used to go to my front view i was not able to see behind that reflection screen if i was in smooth mode. SO i think display as box would definitely help thanks
