quizzy
I very into YES (The band) And the artwork by Roger Dean. Maybe its an idea to vizualise his style in 3D. It can be architecture or the landscapes he makes. Go check his website: http://www.rogerdean.com What I'm looking for in such a contest is NOT the compositions he did, and model that. It's just his style, I would like to see. Colors, composition, atmosphere, etc...
STRAT
you mean like an architectural/lanscape fantasy type of scene? I LIKE THAT IDEA
quizzy
Yes... But in the style of Roger Dean
STRAT
i think in a specific style is a bit restrictive, other than to you (becuase he's a favorite of yours). i personally like this guy - http://www.rodneymatthews.com/gallery.htm - but wouldn't expect anyone else to the fantasy idea is great, why not just run with that one? quizzy
hey strat, that looks really cool too, a bit the same as Roger Dean, i think... well okay, lets stick to the fantasy thing.. But it has to be Landscape or Architectural..
Sawyer
Hey guys - Out of curiosity didn't we vote down a middle earth compitetion? Or was that too specific fantasy wise? http://www.cgarchitect.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000011 I do think that something we could design our selves would be a kick. A bit of topic for a challenge imho.
Pavel Roder
ok, and in some other issues it could be The Mies`es VILLA TUGENDHAT - one of the few buildnings of modern architecture listed on UNESCO list, what do u think ? web page with 3d model fly by
GaryR50
Just a side note FYI, but there are many existing houses already built in that "Middle Earth" or Roger Dean style. The people who are doing them refer to the genre as "earthships." Also, Dean is selling plans for his own designs, I believe.
Sawyer
Actually "earthship" usually refers to a building method. Earthships that I have worked on have used recyled materials for walls (ie tire, cans, glass bottles for windows) and reamed earth along with more traditional enviro building techniques like adobe and straw bale. Often full of pure hippy goodness. [ May 27, 2003, 08:04 PM: Message edited by: Sawyer ]
nisus
Hi all, I think a few parallel thoughts about the next challenge have been around for a while too. Why not check those first? Anyway, voting down Middle Earth first, turning to fantasy next... a bit strange imho... I'd prefer something ArchVissy (and here is my link to a fantasy artist: Bruce Pennington http://www.aumania.it/fa_pennington1.html) rgds nisus
Jeff Mottle
If some of you have the time to hammer a challenge out and present it to me, I can pass it along as the guys at CGchallenge, as they want to try to launch on Monday. I unfourtunatly am too busy right now to try to hash one out, so......sorry.
nisus
I'll read all previous posts about challenges and brief you an idea rgds nisus
gulgamesh
Graphisoft used to run a competition which I'm sure some of you are aware of. They would choose a particular aspect of several pieces of litrature and you had the choice of picking one to model. Some times it was quite abstract sometimes it was not. That would give everyone some room to manouvre, some opportunity for creativity and design without being too specific. One of the last things I read was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and any of the 'Duke's' hotel rooms from that trip would for interesting modelling... Just a thought. DelfoZ
why not a modeling challenge .. ( of curse modeling and render - post-production etc etc ). this can improve the modeling techniques of all the CGA´s users. anyone can share a picture from a building and we take this picture from reference .. what u think ? p/s- i say this because a lot of people are talking about a modeling techinques and asking what are the best method and program to do this .. just an idea saludos ! nisus
Gulgamesh: interesting idea! I'll do some research on great places Delfoz: do you mean to model after a photograph? rgs nisus
DelfoZ
nisus: yes. only with a few pictures of the same building ..
nisus
Tnx. Interesting tought too, but less business-connected imho as we would normally prefer a composition into an site photo instead of modelling an existing building. (Except when huge budgets are allowed of course...) Anyway, I've submitted my proposal yesterday so I'll write it down on my challenge-idea-list for next time ,) rgds nisus
