Vray Demo - Good enough to learn on?

Hi,

I am at the stage where I want to learn all about Vray. Now I have the demo as unfortunately I do not have the funds to buy it for myself. And I have found Christopher Nichols tutorial disks and am on the verge of buying them. But I just wanted to confirm that I will be able to learn all that I need to on the demo? Is it limited so it does not have all of the function of the proper Vray? Are there any other books/videos I should be looking at to learn Vray?

Thanks

To answer your question, the demo is the full program, it has several small differences. 1: Saving the file you're working on, will reset the settings to default.. 2: theres a Watermark over the images. 3: its a slightly older User Interface into the renderer, but all the bits are exactly the same in functionality, just some have been moved to seperate Tabs in the full (read: newest) version.

Chris's disks are good, I dont personally agree with all of his tips, as he's more focus'd on quality at the expense of speed, and architecture seems to be the speed at the expense of ultimate quality within reason.. (For lack of a better explanation.) I tend to have his disks be my first line of defense to get new hires somewhat up to speed before they start attacking me with questions :)

also the vray help file http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/index.htm is very solid in terms of examples that more or less clearly demonstrate the various features. Though i wouldn't suggest many of the 'official' tutorials in the help site personally as production type techniques, they do explain the overall types of settings fairly well.

Thanks guys your advice is much appreciated. Brian those tutorials look pretty good, will be having a good look through them for sure. I may hold of on Chris's cds and see what these free tutorials are like. I am also going to be hitting your site tomorrow Brian for Mental Ray :D

Hi,

Look into buying them from the states , got the 2 for the office a few months back and the exchange rate at the moment between the pound and dollar ment a hell of a saving from the german site we were going to buy them from.

Let me know if you want me to hunt down the details,

Not managed to get into the disks very far (swamped etc) but they look worth the money

Heh if I had an employer I would certainly try!! Looking for a job at the mo and have Max but that kind of killed the bank account, so just wanted to know that I can learn everything I need to on the demo. As it will help in finding a job.
