charbroil
Anyone know how to scatter an object on a surface and have the scattered object transform (stretch, modify) to fit within the edges of the subdivided surface? I am trying to scatter an object across a surface that is unevenly subdivided, so it would be great if the scattered object could morph according to the outline of each subdivision. Thanks for the help.
Crazy Homeless Guy
well i am going to assume that you are using the Scatter tool under the Compound Objects roll out, but it is not really clear from your description what you want to do after that. maybe try posting a screenshot with some marks in Photoshop showing what it is you are trying to accomplish. Ricardo Eloy
For a long time now, I've been using Particle Flow for this kind of thing. Works great!
charbroil
Here's a sketch of what I'm talking about - will particle flow do this? Thanks.
Claudio Branch
After looking at your image, I believe that you are going to have to manually model in those types of features. Editable Poly will handle those pyramidal shapes quickly. Just use Bevel and Collapse the upper vertices. For your torus shapes, I would also recommend using Editable Poly. Select the four edges of the polygon that bound the torus and use "Create Shape from Selection." Go to the sub-object (vertices) level of the new shape and fillet the vertices and just make the spline "renderable."
charbroil
That's what I was worried about. Thanks for the reply. I think this is something generative components would be useful for - does anyone know of a script that could do somehting like this in max?
