UV Map modifier on a multi/sub-object in max 2008

EDIT: I can work around it by adding an edit poly modifier after each UW mapping modifier, but I swear I never had to do that in max7, or did I ?? my memory's f@@ked :S

Hey,

when I make a room for example, I prefer to use multi/sub-object materials. I then use a material for the walls, window frames, floor, ceiling etc.. which means I need to map some of them (wood flooring and window frames usually). In max 7 I could do this no problem, I used the UV map modifier for each material in the multi/sub-object, edited each 1 individually, and so long as I applied the modifier when I had the relevant polys selected using the material IDs in poly mode, it worked fine. In 2008 however, I'm having problems mapping each material separately, as soon as I change say my floor map, then say go onto do my window frame map, the floor map ends up changing as well. I cant work out why this is happening but it's very annoying. My material IDs are set correctly, within the UV map modifier AND the material editor (the blue numbers in the pull down menu). I'm doing everything the same as I did in max 7, yet it's just not working as I want it too.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, if anyone can shed some light on this I'd greatly appreciate it.

thanks a lot

Mark

I think that maybe that's the problem. Use the map channels instead of the Material ID. You can then have control over the mapping by adding multiple UVW's.
