Exellite
On the news yesterday in the UK there's this almost zero carbon emmisions house thats up for awards, was quite intresting looking at some of the solutions they have come up with to keep emmisions down, whilst also saving the ocupiers a hell of a lot of money per year on bills. The most socially responsible buildings in the future will take into account the environment and how things like heating, electrics, water supply etc.. will be taken care of efficiently and most importantly, cleanly. jackb602
There's a lot more to humane building than energy efficiency. A cave lit by fluorescent lights would be extremely energy efficient, but would make users absolutely miserable. Some examples of architects who are exceptionally sensitive to the social aspects of space include: Hans Scharoun, Alvar Aalto, Herman Hertzberger and Gunther Behnisch. Actually, a great resource would probably be Hertzberger's "Lessons for Students in Architecture." Vernacular architecture of any kind is also a valuable reference for architecture that responds to human needs, location and climate. Jack
