sygboe
hi, i just built a grat new PC with an 8800gt graphics card which is great...but in sketchup if i select use hardware acelleration it does this strange thing to the screen. it goes all jaggedy and shifts a bit. this is only when i use the selection tool (which is pretty much all the time). does anyone know what this is? here are pics of 'normal' and one with the selection tool. thanks for any help:confused:
mbowers
Yup, i had the same issue when i swiched to a Nvidia card from an ATI Radeon. Try turning off your hardware acceleration inside Sketchup under Window->Preferences. I remember having to change the anti-alias settings under the Capabilites area. Try tweaking those until it resolves the issue. HTH.

allanx
Hi stu, I have the same problem and my only work-around for this is to avoid over-lapping windows in the 3D viewport like the layer panels, style panels etc...do not place them inside the 3D viewport. It is cause by the OpenGL, your video card is using a new one but SU is not... allanx
sygboe
ahhh. thanks, as in at least it's not just me. i spent hours last night installing previous drivers and previous versions of sketchup. to no avail. it's so annoying, as without hardware accelleration on, the computer seems to struggle (and it's a quad core ). i just built the damn thing. i cant have simple sketchup struggling on me. i'll try moving the windows of the screen then, and wait for an update i guess. the sketchup forums are rubbish now google changed them. allanx
New machines/video cards are pretty useless with SU at the moment, I'm also waiting for an update and hopefully Google will address the problem... allanx
allanx
I have found a solution inside Nvidia settings which is causing the problem, try turning off the Anti-aliasing mode and restart your computer the weird things in the viewport are gone even there are over lapping windows but the lines are jaggy in the viewport.. allanx

P.R.S. Sivakumar .
Hi Sygboe! I installed this same 8800GT card - which is a great card - after getting feedback from different forums. It is great for SketchUP - once you have the work-arounds for the problems you mentioned. I had the same problems. Also, the sky (if you had the sky turned on and have gradient for the sky) was going black whenever you panned or tried to select something. This problem was solved when I downloaded a newer driver - version 163.71. You have to Google out to find out this download. I hate to see jagged lines when I work. So my anti-aliasing is always on. I don't keep any windows inside the viewport area as Allanx has said. Also, in the "Global Settings" in the Nvidia control panel , turn off vertical sync. This will give a speed enhancement to all of your 3D software. I am quite happy that I bought this card With best regards PRSS
Slinger
There is a post over in the google forums in regards to this issue with the 8800gt and sketch-up. Are office just got us 8800gt's to upgrade from are 6600gts and this happened. From http://groups.google.com/group/sketchupissues/browse_thread/thread/b9b2dcec6999a2d2 To fix it go to [Nvidia Control Panel] -> [Manage 3d settings] -> Under the [Global Settings] tab -> Turn [Conformant Texture Clamp] to the [OFF] setting. Then start Sketchup, go to [Window] -> [Preferences] -> select [OpenGl] -> uncheck [use fast feedback] and leave [use hardware acceleration] checked. allanx
Yeah, It has still some artifacts when I'm selecting some objects on the view port...maybe I'm missing something... Best, allanx
P.R.S. Sivakumar .
Same here. It has not fixed the problem. I think this is varying from machine to machine - the later the machine the more the problems are. The problem is not there in my 2-1/2 year old machine. But it is very much there with my second new machine. With best regards PRSS
Slinger
One more thing to consider is updating to the latest wqhl drivers from nvidia.
