sudark
one of my first few renderings with vray in max9. used environment one direct light and one vray planar light flush with the windows. irradiance map and light cache was used. why does my image still seem so cartoonish? any tips? is it something to do with the gamma? charter
the overall composition is fine, but i think the image lacks sparkle. It looks quite gloomy and the scale of the flooring seems massive. Also is the grey the object nearest the camera a tv?
sygboe
hi. my first thoughts are the black shadows are too dark, and you have very little or no reflections. that may make it more realistic.
sudark
yep, that is a tv. i agree, maybe the floors need to be more reflective. and i will adjust the scale of the planks. maybe the grout is too wide. also, ill try fixing the dark multiplier of the shadows. thanks for the help. ill post it as soon as i finish
Joseph Petrino
In my opinion, your problem is more in your Vray settings than materials. Post your settings?
sudark
hmm i cant seem to get a complete screenshot of my vray settings. and it seems that its too long to type. is there a simpler way to upload settings? but a brief explaination would be this: adaptive undersampling, mitchell-netravali @ .333. irradiance map and light cache. i kicked up a bit the contrast on the GI post processing and i have color mapping at exponential and i made the dark multiplier 0.8 and light multiplier 2.0. i have a gut feeling that it is with the color mapping that i screwed up. any tips on this? Eric Sosa
unless u'r using a vrayphysicalcam u can not get more "natural" ligth into the room, besides u'r dark materials (colours) got too much GI and bleed the render. hope u know hoe to correct the GI of your materials. either try to add one single standard omni in the middle of the room, with very low intensity, with far attenuation (end at 2 times the size of the room) and no shadows to help to lit the rest of the room, or use the vraycam with long shooter speed..about 1.0...this is little more complicated if u do not use to work with vray physical cam. hope it helps
Joseph Petrino
"i have a gut feeling that it is with the color mapping that i screwed up. any tips on this?" I think so too. I usually use Linear unless I have something really bright (then I use Exponential. I leave the multipliers at 1, balance the lights and then use the physical camera to fine tune the light levels. hope that helps
