photoshop error

i hope someone has a simple answer/solution to this problem.

i was doing some basic editing of some image files yesterday - just cropping, re-sizing and saving (jpg) and now they won't open again. i've also noticed that images i did months ago (and were fine) are not opening either.

i can't seem to view/open them in any program now, and if i try to open them in photoshop, it wants to start a new file.

what have i done to deserve this !

any suggestions much appreciated.

thanks

i thought about that, james, thanks.

it just seems odd that i could open these files earlier, but not now.

i don't think the files are corrupted. they just seem to be inaccessible.

i even tried to email them to work, but thunderbird couldn't send the files because of some 'temporary drive' issue (needs to temp access them, i think)

if you want to email (email addresses sent in PM) me one, if you can, i'll see if it opens on my machine. i'll be at work email for the next hr otherwise use my home address.

have you saved them as Basline (standard) Baseline Optimized or Progressive in the jpeg option dialog box?? not sure it should make any difference to opening them locally but i know it can make a difference in apps such as flash.

thanks james - i'll do that later from home (i'm at work now, and wasn't able to email them to myself here).

i didn't change any settings when saving, although i might have overlooked something.

i wondered if it was a colour management issue, but maybe it is the type of JPEG. some of the images are very old, but that doesn't account for all of the images i can't open.

p.s. definitely not a file permission issue

Paul, have you tried changing the file extension to .jpeg or .jpg depending upon which way round it is at present?

You don't need to manually change the file extension, just use the "open as" command in photoshop and tell it what kind of file you think it is. As long as the internal file data is intact it will open.

thanks brian - i'll try that later.

i couldn't place it in illustrator either.......or view them in that windows image viewer, but i'm (virtually) sure they are not corrupted.
