Devin Johnston
I've been noticing that even though I assign render nodes to jobs after they were initially submitted to BB that these machines never start rendering. I'll highlight a job, select "selected job" and see all the nodes that are supposed to be working on that job. Some of them are green but most of them are yellow (idle) and no matter how long they are there they never render. I've tried changing the priority to critical but it doesn’t change. It's almost like if I don't choose these machines at the time I submit the jobs I can't add any more machines to that job. I've never seen this before and it's really becoming a problem. I'm using Max 9 32bit with SP 2, has anyone else had this problem?
Claudio Branch
We have had that problem (amongst others) and found that restarting the Manager service usually clears up the problem.
Devin Johnston
Thanks Claudio I'll give it a try!
Devin Johnston
That worked Claudio, do you know what it happens?
Claudio Branch
Devin, we don't really know why it works...I suppose the app just gets hung up and needs a reboot. I am switching over to a render management app called "Deadline" (made by Frantic Films). It is replacing BB and I will use it for "net-meshing" with Real Flow. ihabkal
I've had that problem before and updating BB worked for me...
Devin Johnston
Claudio, that Deadline software look to be pretty expensive, do you have it yet? Is it really that much better than BB?
Claudio Branch
Claudio, that Deadline software look to be pretty expensive, do you have it yet? Is it really that much better than BB? Devin, "that much better" is really relative to your firm's needs, budget and tolerance for bugginess in an app. In all honesty, I can usually tolerate the bugginess of BB. It works well 90% of the time. However, its really only good for Max. Deadline will manage multiple apps and it is a must for the work I do with Real Flow. Deadline and Qube! will both let you try out their software on a 30 day trial basis. Qube! is cheaper than Deadline I believe...
