FlytE
Ive upgraded from max 2008 32b to max 2008 64b. Ive also upgraded my version of vray from rc4 to SP1. Between these changes now all the textures+geometry in my viewport is tinged a yellow/green colour.... ie it displayed fine in 32 but not in 64. Ive updated graphics card drivers, and tried all the different display driver options in max but nothing changes. I cant find anything on the net, anyone have any ideas? Horhe
Does this happen with previous scenes and new scenes that you created?
Horhe
If its only happening with our previous scenes then I recon that its because they were made in 32. Modeling and materials. Try and merge to a new scene and create the rest in there.
FlytE
It didnt happen in the 32 bit. I have tried as you suggested and there was no change, however in doing that I discovered that the vray sun is the problem. When I delete it out my scene, the colours are fine.... when i leave it in, everything is yellow/brown. I know the vray sun changes colour depending on angle etc (mine is at 45 degrees), and that is definitely part of it the yellow colour but in 32b it look and rendered just right at the same angle - it shouldnt really be THIS yellow and dark. (oh and I created a new sun system on a new file and the same still happens)

WAcky
sure you dont have DX10 selected in your viewport settings?
FlytE
yeah its definitely dx9
Vince Paske
Did your turbidity and ozone settings change? http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/vraysun_sky_param.htm
FlytE
damn i didnt see the post above. I toggled default lights and that has brought the colour back so we are getting there...thanks for that! However, I still have no direct lighting in my viewport so its very dark and grey. When I enable lighting in the viewport it just defaults back to default lighting in all its dull yellow glory. Ambient lights in env is set to black by the way.... and ozone etc unaffected. Horhe
Ok. Having your default lighting on - set up the ambient light under enviroment dialog higher than black(brighter). You should see your viewport getting brighter as closer you get to the pure white colour.
Horhe
Well probably that sorted the dark viewport settings - but thats without the preview of how the direct light is affecting your scene. For now i suggest you use the default light ticked in viewport for modeling, and for preview, well its always been a crappy preview anyway so im not sure why you need it so bad? When Im previewing direct in viewport I only aim for rough setting of the specular. And that still isnt accurate. Maybe time to change to MR 2008 and its interctive shadow previewing (with up to 45 light simultaniously!!) ? Or just wait for chaos group to implement this funkty stuff. But as Rick Eloy mentioned in your second thread, its probably the way max 2008 handles the shadows. They got something new. And now other third party lighting solutions have to adapt. FlytE
yeah i brightened up the amient light but I have never had to do that in the past.... and it still doesnt show direct light. I can live with it if its the best I can get but im recon there is something Im still missing. *edit sorry I just caught up on the posts. Yes you are right it will do as it is, you always have to do draft renders anyway just in case, I suppose it doesnt make too much of a difference. Thanks for your help everyone.
