malevy
Excellent work... I really like the dusk renderings That last dusk render looks really good, Billa... I liked the daytime render on the first page, too - very impressive!
Billabong
Thanks guys for commenting, I just try my best to stay away from displacement if I can
Tommy L
Its not rendered displacement, so it wont impact on your rendertime. You can physically displace geometry in your scene using a grayscale.
Billabong
ah, well you learn something new everyday. Is there a tutorial or reference on how to actually do this, I not gonna dare doing it to this scene after all the work i spent making that, but it will come in handy for for the future if I can find out how to actually make the maps and use them. Thanks Tommy
Tommy L
Just select displace from the modifier list and place with the settings. You see the progress onscreen and its quite self explanatory. The difficult part is creating the map, as you need a greyscale that corresponds to height.

Billabong
Hey guys, here is an update, this isn't the lighting I'm going to used, I just figured this was good time to show an update. I got 6 condos in, possible 3 more to go, then the clubhouse/marina, then all the vegatation and some cars I'm still working on that grass and mud, I just can't get it to look right, but I'll get there
Horhe
The grass looks too grainy - looks too uniform. Try and make more variation. Try and hit the objects with direct light from the opposite side that the camera is located - so that one visible wall is in shadow. Nice progress. Billabong
Thanks Jakub and Yeah I totally agree. I think it looks like crap right now and I should'nt have shown an update yet, I was just a little estatic that Ive gotten 6 condos in here so far
Billabong
Here's an update on the clubhouse, thoughts or crits?
blowback
Dude, I really like the progress. Just a couple of things of the cuff. Maybe some cut lines in the manicured grass? A little atmospheric haze? Blend a little bit of grunge into that pavement. Looking really good!
Billabong
Thanks Christopher, the grass and the asphalt has been driving me insane. I have tried using mix maps with the grass, but it just didnt look right , so with this one i used a falloff instead. It still looks to uniformed to me, but I am just at a loss with it right now and the asphalt has been nothing but a nightmare. I ended up unwrapping it and texturing in PS
BillyElNino
Great water and boats, the bank vegetation is effective too...There's something not right about those tennis courts, they look suspended above the grass but I think its the shadows giving this effect? I would also take a little of the saturation out of the light green mowing strip around the club house and the roof...Only a thought!
Billabong
Thanks Billy, that light green mowing strip is actually yellow flowers, but I do agree with you, i may change thier color to red. I have been trying your suggestion Christopher on the mowed grass look, but rightnow it looks to tiled, any thoughts on how can get it to look better? Tommy Burns
Looking really good but there is something very strange going on with the cars and the tennis courts one of them is out of scale or maybe its just the perspective but it looks weird Hope this helps
blowback
what r u using 4 a map? I like it...I think the grass looks good. It is suppose to look tiled. you could try adding that map to the bump, or vr displ mod to give it a little unevenness. I also wanted to give you a little pavement blend to try.... let me know how it works. The maps are not incl...but it gives u an idea on vr blent matl. Billabong
Thanks so much chris, dl'ing it now. As far as the tiling, what I mean is the lines lines up from one side of the tennis court to the other, But I think I have decided to just stick with my previous grass. I'm also enlarging the tennis court and building, will post an update in a few
Billabong
So i tired your pave blend Christopher and I think it mayhave to do with my textures, but this still doesnt look right. Ive tried getting some from CG Textures, but I can't seem to get 2 of them that are alike
Billabong
here is one a little more well lit
blowback
It's more of a starting point......blur the noise, have one text show through a little more.....It's not perfect, or final, but a base to sketch from. So your pavement is not one even text or color. Just thought I would throw it out there. ya I see what you mean....diffrent textures....diffrent results. ggod luck! Billabong
well here is another render from the project i have been playing with, I have a little gap where the grass and water meet, I want to put some kind of tall grass and weeds there, but im really not liking the results i get using vray fur, so i may just try to comp something in ther if I can find a marsh or wetland image that will match up with it, but i just wanted to show what i have so far. Thanks for looking
zeniamai
The grass is kindda flat. You can try using vray fur or hair modifier. The texture is kindda big, try to make the texture a bit smaller. Also for the water, try to add a noise modifier to have the bumpy effect or you can also opt to you displacement and also lessen the water reflection a bit. Over-all you're modelling is okay however the brightness of your model didn't match the background. You can adjust the light using color mapping or photoshop.
