novelh
I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere on how to make a light source shine in a rendering but not necessarily contribute to the illumination of the scene. Examples of a shining light source would be the exposed light bulb of a lamp post at night, the headlights of an on coming car, a flashlight, etc... I tried to place a sphere in a light fixture and apply a white material with self-illumination turned up but it did not appear illuminated at all (with mR). Tommy Burns
I know you can do this in Mental Ray (Max 2008) using the Glare effect you put the glare shader in camera shaders output. Look it up in the tutorials Hope this helps
tstephens
If you are using Standard lighting (omnis, spotlights, free direct, etc) you can add a Volume light effect to the light. In the Modify setting for a light, scroll down to the Atmospheres and Effects category and choose Volume Light.
