pablo scapi
Hello: I´ve recently updated to max 2008, using XP 64bit, Vray. Since then i have experienced a lot of crashes, much more often than before working with max9. Don´t know for shure when this appens, but often when merging or opening a new drawing when i have one open allready. Just wanted to check if this is happening to you also, maybe i´m missing some known trouble or something. Thank you
Brian Cassil
I'm on 64bit and yes I do get a lot of crashes. Much more so than I did with Max9
Matt Clementson
Hmm - I've found 2008 more stable than MAX 9 for me.

Tommy L
I have a few issues with 2008: 1: a few more crashes/freezes. 2: drop down menus only appear when scrolled over 3: menus dont appear, but are there, so you sit there thinking 'wheres that menu?' 4: bizarrely, a conflict with screensaver. I disabled my screensaver and power-saving now I can see textures in the viewport (a known issue). 5: Some crashing when switcing out maps within color-correct modifier, could be because its a plugin not designed for max2008 though. pablo scapi
I have also noticed recently, that suddenly all my geometry disapers from the screen when changing to a new viewport (not allways off course) and there is no way to have it back again, apart from resstarting max. But the geometry is there because i can select something if a do a cross over. I have noticed also other strange stuff with the viexport displays, like some objects disapering (only some objects) unless they are selected, then (when selected) they disply fine until i deselect them, then disaper again. I wonder if this could be some conflict with my graphic card. It´s an Nvidia Geforce 8800 gts. i will check that conflic with the power-saving settings, hadn´t any clue abaut that. bye

Billabong
I use direct3d, even though I have a 8800GTX, direct3d just handles poly counts so much better than opengl

Koper
like some objects disapering (only some objects) unless they are selected, then (when selected) they disply fine until i deselect them, then disaper again. bye check your adaptive degradation settings, there is a setting called 'never redraw after degrade' maybe that is on. but it almost surely sounds like that’s the problem, with stuff disappearing. make sure you read up on adaptive degradation in the max help files, it really is powerful but when used incorrectly it can be a pain Randy, I love drinking a loaf of bread too :o , hehe, sorry for the OT
Tommy L
Max is crashing everytime I move the slider bar. Nothing is animated yet, Im just trying to keyframe the first camera...... Ok, Ive had enough. Everything is making Max crash today. Add 'switch to multiple viewports when goemetry is not even enabled in viewports' to the list. ShaunDon
We have the same problem with disappearing objects if they're not selected, across multiple workstations with different graphics cards. For a couple of my colleagues, the latest hotfixes for 2008 corrected their glitches. The only surefire way to stop this from happening is to go to Object Properties and uncheck "Edges Only." This means a messier wireview, but it stops objects from disappearing alright. We get a really frustrating crash that happens during an autosave or when starting a render, max will give an error message saying that "x" file appears to be corrupt, would you like to resave? If you say yes, and save in another location, it tries, then gives the same message again until you hit cancel. Then max crashes. Usually when this happens the last autosave file is destroyed, so it's a major pain. Somehow I doubt they've had time to fix this before max 2009 ships...
