nykegoddess
i am asking a lot of questions, i know... but am a newbie.. okay here is the question. does vray lights automatically apply shadows to the objects on the scene? like direct light and so on, there is a drop down menu that lets you decide what sort of shadow you want (vray shadows, raytraced shadows... etc) i cant find that option for vray lights. so i went into the exclude menu and selected all the objects in my scene and set them to be illuminated and cast shadows... i want to know if i am doing the wrong thing here or if there is another method to do this. i hope i am making sense. thanks
jophus14
Max or Viz default lighting such as Standard or Photometric allow you to choose different shadow types. Vray Light does not. There is an option to turn shadows on or off with all lights in the software though. The VrayLight will automatically cast shadows for you. You can exclude certain object or geometry from receiving the light as well. I hope I'm understanding your question correctly.

Inhibitor
Hello everybody, I also have got a question concerning vray lights and shadows. As you can see on the picture, there are some glowing posts. In the upper part they have got light material. Additional I have added a vray light to each one, and put there "relationship" to invisible. So the lights shine through also they are inside the posts. I`m not satisfied with the shadows yet. As you can see, there are different areas of darkness, but I would be pleased to have "stronger" shadows, ecpecially casted by the two guys. And another question: do you have an idea, how to lighten the guys up? Wish you all a good start into 2010! Best regards, Edward
Ricardo Eloy
Please, start a new thread instead of using very old ones like this. Use the WIP section for this one. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
abmitalia
Eduard - an advice first: post your questions seperately on your own, its more likely to get some answer. In your scene is a big contradiction. The color of the sky make suppose that there is still ambient light arround. You switched it off. Selve illuminating VRay Light Material is not ment to be the principal light source. Just work with the Vray-lights and you will get shadows - although looking at the lamp positions , I ask myselfe what kind of shadows you expect to see - keep on going. Inhibitor
Ah, sorry - I will know it better next time. Thought you would like less threads... Thank you very much Ralf. Ok, I`ll try to avoid using the light material. I expected shadows beneath the wooden boxes. Probably there is too much light, to see any of them... Anyway, thank you again! aristocratic3d
You can add an ambient occlusion material in the material override option from global switch section.
