AO flicker bug?

I'm in R10.506, and doing an animation with AO. havent used AO in ages

 

thing is, it's flickering like buggery. i dont remember AO doing this. The beauty of AO is that it's meant to be completely flicker free. and thats how i remember it.

whats happened? am i forgetting to flick a switch or something?

would you consider it almost-flicker-free?

that's the best i could do.

i've noticed that the flicker happens approx. every 1 sec.

it might be some kind of "refreshing (?)" AO shading.
