Tim Saunders
I'm just trying to do batch rendering, so I can render multiple images while I sleep tonight, but it isn't working. In the network job assignments window (that comes up when I hit "render"), there is no server listed when i click connect. When I open the manager, and the sever programs, they both show a successful registration, however, the manager shows the following error: WRN: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Backburner\cmd.task: Plug in already exists: Command Line Tool. Could that have anything to do with my problem? Any other thoughts?

Tommy L
Do you have 32 bit nodes? And a 64 bit workstation? If so, it may be that backburner is looking for 64 bit machines. Go into the advanced tab in BB when submitting the job and check 'render as 32bit' or whatever it says.
Tim Saunders
32-bit nodes and 32-bit workstation. I'm thinking it's something more simple. When i read over the help files, they instructed to open the manager first, then a window will open where you will change or accept the defaults. I think I opened the server first, then the manager. I don't remember any window other than the manager and server windows opening--no settings windows. I bet this caused an issue with one of the BB files, but I don't know how to change any of that. That's just a guess.
Tommy L
can the manager see the nodes? do they register then not appear in the submit job window?
Tim Saunders
Yeah, they connect. the only thing that looks out of place on the manager, is the following line: WRN: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Backburner\cmd.task: Plug in already exists: Command Line Tool. Tommy L
Did you have a look at the option I mentioned earlier? That tripped me up for a while..... I dont think that error is anythin g to worry about. Ive seen it before and I dont remember ending up hating it.
Tim Saunders
Yeah, 32-bit is checked. The problem is, there is no server listed. You know where is should show a computer name with the little colored circle to the left? Yeah, well there is nothing listed--it's all blank. It is a complete install requiring removal of all previous installs before starting. A stupid question but - have you got the same version of max on the nodes? Tim Saunders
The issue is with the manager. I am not even using nodes at the moment. I'm just doing this to batch render at night. Ooh, I just remembered, I havent uninstalled Viz 2007. I wonder if I need to do that? I'll check the link you gave for the fix too.
Tim Saunders
I am reluctant to do the hotfix suggested, because it is for Max 9, I am using Max 2008. Would uninstalling Viz fix my problem? I hesitate doing that because there have been a couple models that I can't open in max for some reason.
Tim Saunders
I did notice that I can connect fine with Viz. i wonder if when we installed Max 2008, it didn't install the latest BB since a version was already installed???
