Hi all,

I am a C4d user and I am wondering about jumping into Vray for my rendering needs. As there is no demo available could you guys give me some feed back on this. Whats is the change over like, is the quality much better, is it a whole new learning curve, how long are the render times in comparsion to C4d [i know depends on settings but generally]..... etc.

Let me know what you think,

many thanks.

i switched over the day it was released, and have only gone back to use the AR for rendering out of necessity (which is not very often).

I'm loving it. it's fast. and GI rendering for stills and animations is a dream.

The learning curve is pretty easy. I sat down behind it for a good 4 or 5 days to learn it. Then, after you grasp those basics, you slowly develop the standards and methods for your new working pipe line.

It can be quite daunting, with all it's buttons and knobs and options, but you'll find you only learn and specialize in the options that suit your style. For example, caustics and stuff? i still haven't even looked at them, and dont plan on it in the near future either :)

It's different from the AR in the nature you set up scenes and lighting rigs - in the AR you cheat. always have done. but in vray you emulate how you light in nature. The is no cheating. no need.

Vray isn't any 'better' than the AR in terms of image quality (there are some AR renderings i've done in the past i couldn't better by vray if i tried) but it is fairy beginner friendly, ie, pre-sets make it easier for nubes to get going and get lighting. vray integrates beautifully with C4D, and it is easier and faster to get nice results, but as we all know, it's only a tool. But a tool i'd highly recommend.

Thanks for that Start.

Very clear responce and seems to be a glowing reference, I am pretty much convinved that I will take the plunge, would love a look at a demo though. Anyone have any comments about Final Render for C4d or is this a different beast all together.

Hi mdbassett.

I highly highly highly recommend Vray.

At the start I found it all to much but after a few weeks I am

finding it fairly easy to use.

There are a lot of options and settings but alot of these you will never

use anyway.

I just finished my first large commercial project using vray.

It took me a bit longer then normal to complete as I wasn't

used to it but after throwing my self into the deep end I have

found my grove.

What part of Ireland you from?

Im working for an architects called DMOD as graphics / CG Architect. What is the name of your Da's practice done some work down in Cork with a previous practice I worked for.

Also would you have a screen shot of Vray for me to have a peek at the interface it.

I like your images the lighting is nice and soft and your cars are cool. Is your sky within Vray or has it been added within photoshop.??.

R. Mc Grath Associates Architects.

It's just the two of us down here. We work from home.:D

I guess the largest project we worked on was a 200 house development

in East Cork. It's an A rated energy efficient development. Timber frame, Solar panels, wood chip burners and all that.

Nice image by the way. Is there a hint of sketch & toon on some of the out lines?.

Are there many in your practice?

Vray for Cinema is used with in Cinema it's self.

You can access it up in the render settings.

The sky is a dosch hdri which I used for background, GI and reflection.
