gateway quad core any good?

guys i am looking for a new machine to do my 3d work on and i cam across a refurbished gateway with some impressive specs for 600 bucks. How do you guys feel about gateways are thay any good. I always worked on a dual xenon dell orecesion 470 with 4 gb of ram i really dont want to go backwards by switching to this machine. here are the specs.

They made a lot of decisions I wouldn't, but my CPU, MB and RAM would add up to more than their entire computer costs.

 

Unless your Dell is pretty new and has Core2-type Xeons, this machine will be faster. I have no idea whether a Geforce 8500 is any good but you can swap that out later and still be saving money.

For $600, its a deal. Forget the brand.

Maybe try haggling a little, get them to put in an extra gig in exchange for the worst graphics card they have (instead of the 8500) then hook it up to your machine as a render node.

get them to put in a cooler for the processor as well. Nothing fancy, just something quiet.
