RPC for vray?

Plus if you apply a camera correction modifier to your camera it totally screws up the rpc models when you render. I even emailed them about this issue and they said they are aware of it but are taking no action to solve it  So from that point on I haven't used any rpcs. For plants, people and cars I have used Realworld Images and Marlyn Studios.

So thats what it is! Having to place them almost halfway into the ground to get them at the right spot was shitting me big time. This and how fragile they make you renderer in terms of crashing stopped me using them.

I'm about to start post-prod on the first piece that i will be doing all the foliage in PS.

Alpha mapped planes is a good idea, once i get some time im going to build a nice library of pre-mapped planes i can just import in to any scene.

I don't understand their refusal to adapt the RPC's to GI, I can't believe that there are still more scanline people out there than there are those using GI engines. At last years DMVC I talked to a archvision guy about this problem, he said they were aware of the problem and had something in the works but he couldn’t talk about it. I hope they come up with something soon, I've got a large library of RPC objects that are useless now, my library of AXYZ people is getting bigger every day.

interesting. I just put six rpc people into a scene using Max 2008, vray 1.5. and using camera correction modifier. I had no trouble with crashing or any thing else. The onle problem I had was that one of the people was reflected in a stainless steel door and the reflection was not correct. It was not "refected" but was a repeat of the person fron the same angle. IOW the person was facing the reflective door and so the reflection should have shown the persons face but instead showed the persons back.

Sorry I probably should have said that I was only using scanline and having this problem, so it maybe different with Vray (although not from what people are saying). I had this problem a good 2+ years ago and it looks like its still not been solved!! Basically what would happen is that they looked fine in the view ports but if you rendered out and some of your RPCs (flowers/plants in my case) would become all distorted and looking very weird. I do hope they fix this problem but I am just glad I found a great resource for plants and people for my stills.

Well you should have posted this in the 3D Studio Max forum because the render engine you use is going to have different problems associated with these plugins. As for scanline having issues with RPC's beyond the normal stuff like reflections and shadows not matching up with where the object is located it's not usually a big problem the only thing they don't seem to like much is when you turn on force 2 sided.

I use Vray and RPC people all the time without much problem  Up to 100 in a scene and I'm ok

I always render the rpc out seperately, saving as png's, then when compositing in combustion I add colour correction to adjust the rpc's to the render better.

Render using vray, but switching GI off and using a mid grey background to speed up render times

They are not perfect by no means, but neither are 3d people. They have no shadows cast which is my biggest issue with them. :)
