Blueprints?

Hi,

I'm a new member to the forum and I was wondering if anyone knows of websites, or good books that have architectural blueprints?

I've been working in CG and VFX for a number of years, but I haven't had the opportunity to develop a workflow for archi-viz yet and wanted to get my hands dirty.

Cheers

Hmm. I see your in Toronto. If you main library is anything like ours in Chicago, then they will have a boatload of plans/construction documents on file that you could make copies of....

The library might also have those residential blueprint catalogs; the ones where you can pick out your dream home...lol. Not a bad thing to start out small. Don't tackle plans of the CN Tower when you should probably start out with a shed or two, heh.

Also, Google! :p

The best place to find this information would be your local building and safety department. Typically, anyone who wants to build a building in a city is required to submit their architectural drawings for review and for permits. The city usually keeps a record of these on file, either electronically or in hard copy, or in some cases Microfilm.

You may run into a snag with getting permission because banks or police stations typically don't like people having a set of plans...for obvious reasons. If that is the case you could ask for permission and explain what you are doing, most of the time it requires a phone call or a letter. If you don't want the hassle then you'll need to resort to the library resources. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Yeah, I was going to mention that as well. It's a bit dicey trying to get plans in the post-911 environment. They are a matter of public record but the red tape you have to go through in Chicago in order to see anything is extensive.

Golk: Thanks, I'd definitely appreciate that. You should be able to get my email address through my profile.

Thanks for the heads-up landrvr1 and mbowers. I'll probably stick to hitting the library, it's easy to forget about using it as resource. Hitting Google seems to lead me to a lot house plans for sale. Those dream home plans are starting to sound like my easiest place to start for now.
