TomA
When i go to render a scene i've made, i get this Vray message over and over again: 'warning: Texture 'Map #45 returned an invalid bump normal warning: invalid bump normal' I created the vray material from scratch, using 2 different jpeg bump textures as a composite map. I've tried reattaching the bump maps and even editing them in photoshop, renaming them and then reattaching them, and also just blending them together in PS and then reattaching them as a single bitmap file, but still get the same message. Am i on the right track here? any ideas? Edited July 3, 2008 by TomA
Ricardo Eloy
Posting the problematic map would help.

Ricardo Eloy
Strange... does the same thing happen with a different map/material? PS: I'm moving this thread to the VRay section, since it looks like a specific VRay thing...
TomA
I don't know i'll try. Do you think it could have anything to do with the fact that a large part of the model is imported in from 3D Microstation (produced by Bentley rather than Autodesk)? fourthand11
do you have a uv map on it?
TomA
some objects have uv mapping on yes, but most of them haven't yet. someone in another forum suggested it could be because of the size of the maps, but i'm not sure.
TomA
Here's an early render of it. I'll post it again in a new thread because i've got other questions... http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii31/puttyface_101/public%20spaces%20help/test4-1.jpg

cheerioboy
I just wanted to add to this thread. I had the same problem in my scene. I didn't get the error on the machine that I had building the scene but once I moved the project to another machine the invalid bump normal error started to appear. It ended up being an issue with the noise map placed in the bump slot of a water material that was applied to a vray plane. Removing the noise and applying another one has fixed it, I think. hope this helps
