Billabong
I am trying to create a curvy boardwalk. I created the first board and the spline i want the boards to follow, In the first image you see the actual curvy boardwalk I want, the second image shows the boards start of right, but in the third image you see , what happens after they start hitting the curves, am I just not doing something right or is there a possible script that can help me with this. I really appreciate any help
Tommy L
If I understand you right, all you need to do is tick the 'follow' checkbox in the spacing tool.
Billabong
tried that already, didn't work
Tommy L
Then I dont understand the problem I guess....Do you want the boards to always be perpendicular to the tangent of the path?
Billabong
notice in the first image I have follow ticked and they dont stay in line with the rest of the path, they start to curve a little better, but not how they should, in the second image,Follow is not ticked, they stay in line with the path, but dont curve like they should, This is how I am wanting them http://www.floridaplants.com/MrBoardwalk/corner5.jpg
Tommy L
I think it may be an issue with the axis of the original object. Recreate your plank and make sure you do it in top view. Also, your line (path) should be created in the same view. Then, when the follow is ticked and its all ticketty boo, you should be able to select all of the boards and rotate them in local space and have them at whatever universal angle you desire. If that isnt working, pm me, send me the file and Ill take a look.
Billabong
so basically your saying is I am going to have roate 324 boards individually to get the desired result? BTW, love your site
Billabong
Tommy, that worked perfectly, Thank you so much
Claudio Branch
I used to have a similiar problem with the spacing tool when I used it on a spline with changing elevation points. It would distribute the object, but the z-axis always got skewed. Here is a very fast easy way to do them all together: Select all of the objects distributed along the spline and then hit your Align tool. Now pick your Align Target, which should be the original object you used for spacing Under Align Position (World) check Pivot Point for Current and Target Obejct Under Align Orientation (Local) check the z axis only. Now all of your objects will be perpendicular to the ground while following the spline. Hope this helps...
