Crazy Homeless Guy
I used a project folder setup when I was a Lightwave user, and still base a lot of what I do today off of that experience. It was solid, and worked well. However, that was also before I was using a proper server library. When I started using Max, everything ran out of the Max program file directory. I think it was the release of Max 8 where AutoDesk switched to Project Folder structure. I immediately made the profile change to revert from using project folders to using the old school system. I did this partly because I feel my setup is a solid one, even though I am always refining it. I didn't take the proper time to explore what AutoDesk was introducing,so I don't really know how well they work, and how useful everyone finds them. So, anyone want to give me their opinion? ....and to thoe using them, what problems have you ran into?
Ricardo Eloy
I started using the project folder option in Max 2008. It's not ideal, but helps keeping some files in order. The main thing for me is that now each project has its autoback folder, so I don't have to worry about losing autobacks when switching projects. Nevertheless, I would love to see some customization in that area. I have always used a script to create my custom folders and manage them within Max, so it would be nice to have Max doing this too.
