I already did that, but it seems that there isn't much information about the pros and cons on the net.

Yes, I usually find the internet doesnt have much information either.

I dont think you are supposed to find 'pro's and cons'. You are supposed to research the subject (3d) and form your own opinions.

Ladies ladies, shame on you all, its just a question.

The pros are normally the people who win competitions, their work looks really good, but you also get other very good pros here as well, they are the very good cons

the cons, we'll, you can call us all cons as we create illusions of images that should be real, something simular to what con artists do

But no, seriously, pros & cons about 3D. 3d compared to what? You have to put it in perspective

well thanks, erm... It's more about the pros and cons for companies and for the professional designers themselves. We have to make a full report about the pros and cons and the accessability of 3D generally.

Hi all,

I think that the problem is the question.. what your teacher want to listen.. that the use of a digital "medium" cut off the way you look at the world..

the 3D is just a "medium".. a tool.. a very powerfull tool.. in the world we are living.. and need to be learned as any other complex tool..

I don't think that the economic aspect is so important.. because the question, read more globally, could be very difficult to understand with all the concerning variables.. not the economics aspect, I was saying, but the speed concept..

a scketch done with your hand is much more quick than to open a notebook, launch the software and so on.. I can fix an idea with very few lines.. in this case the analogical "medium" is much more efficient.. but the speed of an hand scketch coudn't contemplate the complexity of the real world.. in this case the use of a digital "medium" is very very helpfull.. considering all the information You can control.. different kind of illuminations, photoreal materials, objects and so on..

We are just at the beginning of a new era.. and many things will change.. about 3000 years ago the people started to write in the way we normally do.. could you imagine our world without writing.. so the 3D is just one more tool..

at the moment

PS maybe I have misunderstood the need of the question but.. anyway "Verba volant, scripta manent".. bye

con:

digital renderings are looked at by the client as a definetive answer to what teh space is going to look and feel like. if you pretend to be photoreal early in the design process, the client will often complain that the space is cold and vacant, or complain about something elde that is not relevant at that point, and will work against the design process, whether it is hating a color, or somthing feeling unfinished or unresolved.

pro:

you can recognize oporutnities and problems at early points in the design process.

pro:

a finished level image can help sell the client and the public on a project, and help raise money. not necessarily a photo real image.

con:

photo real images often make clients think that the project is designed, and that it is to late to make changes. they don't speak up until you are well into the CD phase of the project, which means more hours need to billed to the project as either an additonal change, costing the client money, or you need to figure out how to burry the changes under some aspect of the project, costing you more on the bottom line.

con:

it takes time and effort to create images, it isnot streamlined like AutoDesk wants everyone to beleive.

pro:

it keeps me employed at something i enjoy.

Jeezz.. Easy on the poor fella..

He must have bee a warez user in a previous life or something...:D

It is a bit of an open question, but he has only asked for a bit of help.. thats all.;)

The pro's and cons for me would be, and this is very general, and not limited to:

Pro's:

Enables you to see future built environments before any building work is done.

Helps none architectural people to understand flat plans and elevations.

Important decisions on materials and form can be thoroughly looked at and discussed at a very early stage.

Con's:

Some images / models actually put people off as they appear too final. No room for changes, or client feels pressured into accepting whats done.

Badly composed images can actually have the opposite effect to what you desire. That could include just a bad camera angle, or something that hasn't been thought about.

Can be time consuming, and some projects may not have budget to include them.

Thats my very general Pro's and Con's.. Otherwise we're into specifics...
