bharris
Has anyone taken a look at this tutorial? As a novice, how does it look? Or are there better ones out there?
SandmanNinja
Hi Brett, I have a number of tutorials, from a variety of publishers. I suppose it depends on what you want to do with 3DS. There are some free tutorials out there, that covers the interface and basic poly edting. I have 3DS Max Fundamentals from http://www.3dbuzz.com and it walks you through the basic interface and then jumps into reactor-based animation, then goes into image plane modeling and then some advanced camera tricks. 105 hours for US$99 plus shipping. There are a bunch of tutorials for free at http://www.3d-palace.com that introduces you through the interface by modeling really fun pieces: 'mechs, science fiction buildings, hmm... 'mechs... My avatar is the result of 3 one-hour videos geared towards a newbie and at the end, you get a Warhammer 40K Dreadnaught! I have some gnomon tutorials (the 2 on lighting in V-Ray) and those were good. The best series of video tutorials has to be from http://www.cgacademy.com - something like 22 or more DVDs (buy them one at a time, or buy them all) and it walks you through basic interface, workflow, poly editing, organic modeling, particles, rigging, you name it and it has a detailed section on it. Hope this helps.
