paulomarcosbueno
hello guys, I need to produce an image with almost a hundred spotlighs. The problem is that the reflections get noisy and I don't know why. I've tried to use alternative ways to do that. (creating holes in the ceiling and using an very intense enviroment light, for example). It all worked for light distribuition but not for reflections. Here's a sample that shows the problem. thx
manta
you need to raise the samples in the reflections of the materials...
ramy
Why do you need 100 spotlights? You can create 100 light fixtures if you need to see them in your rendering, but if you are using GI, let that take care of your actual lighting. If you are just creating a still image you can use the interpolate glossy reflections (don't use it for animations) If you are using DMC for your image sampler, increase your min-max range. Also, Adpative Sub. sampler renders "blurrier" reflections, but takes longer to render reflections than DMC.

I've raised the Subdivs for refletion (using 30.0) in the material and it works fine. But increased render time v.v

PGD
I'd create the light fitting you need, a round downlighter by the looks of it. Asign a vray light material to the poly where the light bulb would be. Then light the theatre space with a vray plane light or a few omni's, just using spot lights where the light will wash down the walls

Brian Smith
i wouldnt dream of using that many lights...i would use at most a row around the outside and one larger one for all the lights on the inside. you could a standard self illuminated material to create the look of a light. be careful with the vraylightmtl as you will have to use higher settings to compensate for the noise they can create. rnx
Depending on the look you are trying to achieve you could do one of two things. First approach has already been mentioned- don't use 100 spots for illumination, but as fixtures/incandescent to fake light sources. The other way would be to put off GI. Here you could use 100 spotlights with appropriately low intensity/multiplier as well as a proper attenuation. If these lights are clones then setting parameters such as multiplier or attenuation for all of them become easier, but obviously there would be more uniformity. So maybe you could use 3 to 5 clone sets. just my 2 c.
