Chris Lorenzo
I have a scene where I would like certain objects to reflect in only certain materials/objects in the scene. For instance, I have a floor that I would like to reflect everthing in the scene except some stand-in objects that I'm using to give interest the chrome objects in the scene. Is there a script for doing this? Can anyone help me write one? Thanks.
gfa2
Which rendering engine are you using?
Chris Lorenzo
I'm using VRay 1.5 and 3ds Max 9.
gfa2
I'm not sure if there is some real slick way of doing this, but you can get the results you want by rendering 2 passes and comping them together. If you use the multimatte render elements you can get the masks that you need to comp everything together.
Tommy L
Cant you just do it in object properties? Untick visible to reflection? Ooops, sorry, didnt read the post properly.
Chris Lorenzo
I've considered the multi-pass thing but I have close to a hundred of these to render and wanted to avoid the extra steps. I use the room as my base model and then render different pieces of furniture in the rooms. I was hoping someone knew a way to tell the floor to just ignore the reflection of the the stand-in objects.
rnx
Well maybe you could put the stand-ins onto a layer that you hide during one render pass? If its just the floor that needs to ignore these objects, only one extra pass should do it, right? Hope i understood your problem. rnx.
