Camby1298
Hey all, Looking for a list of Arch Vis companies in the Bay Area, anyone know of any? Or a good source of listings of some? Thanks
jkletzien
I think the prevailing theory is that Hollywood fires a lot of digital artist's imaginations out on the west coast moreso than architecture, and so there are less architectural digital illustration studios out there than on the east coast. Whether that is my east coast myopia, or is true I just don't know - I do know there are tons of super talented artists. by default you'll come up with a preponderance of traditional artists but you might try: http://www.asai.org/Search just type in the number of results you want and a central zip code, and it'll give you a list in radial distance. Pretty handy, and you can list only digital firms if you want. you can also hit the yellow pages. off the top of my head... Heartwood Studios: hwd3d.com ?Michael Sechman: msechman.com - dead link ?View by View: viewbyview.com Screampoint: screampoint.com Robert Frank: rfassoc.com crazy homeless guy: phase22.com Transparent House: transparenthouse.com Or, if you're looking for bays, you might try beautiful Narragansett Bay, the jewel of New England, and look at studioamd. Similarly if you meant the pristime shores, and year round beaches of Tampa Bay, they have an office there too. Good Luck!

BrianKitts
Are you looking for arch vis companies to contract for a job or that could be hiring looking at a job for yourself???.... if it's for working you seek, you may want to consider looking for archtiectural firms in the bay area with in-house visualization groups. I know two off hand that are working on getting in-house studios going.

BrianKitts
And if you wouldnt mind letting me know the two companies you have in mind. Thanks I'm not sure it's my place to say names as I don't want to be responsible for flooding an HR department if they aren't advertising, but it will give your more options to look in that direction as well. Ernest Burden III
Nice. I love San Francisco, I spent my honeymoon there, but... it is A city by A bay, not THE city by THE bay I'm a native, so I would take issue with you on that. It's not A bay area, it's THE Bay Area. Which reminds me, I have to get out there soon to re-charge my Best Coast batteries, and visit family. Living in NY is fine, but the song is right--I left my heart in San Francisco. I'm a native so-cal guy and so I'm sure you are familiar with the little jibes that go between the north and south. It's all in good fun. I actually haven't been back for a real visit since my honeymoon but this summer I'm taking the whole fam for a vacation. My wife and I were there for a week and a half but didn't get to see too many of the sites so it will be fun to go and do that with the kids now. While you're at it, Muir Beach or Stinson beach. There are some great 'designer' hotels near Union Square that we've stayed in, small, charming and not too expensive. Is the University of Miami "THE U" I'm kind of curious how you come down on that ?
Ernest Burden III
Interesting POV. Is the University of Miami "THE U"? No. San Francisco is the city by the bay. New York has its harbor, Boston has one, too. Dallas has I-35, Chicago has Lake Michigan. Places have things that they are defined or identified by, and you don't get San Francisco without San Francisco Bay, or San Francisco Bay without San Francisco. In fact, the entire California Central Coast is God's Country. Other places are too, of course, but this is the one that wired my soul to a place, even though I'm not there very often. Interestingly, the reason I am from San Francisco is that after architecture school my father decided to go to SF to practice, do art, be a beatnik who only wore black, get into a career doing architectural illustration. But he never quite felt at home, being from Massachusetts, and headed back east to NY. I think the landscapes of where you start life are imprinted upon you as 'home'. No matter where life takes you, seeing lands like where you were young makes you feel better, at home. Drifted off the topic, I'm afraid. Sorry for that.
