DavidR
Unless there's a feature you really need in 2008, the argument for upgrading isn't very strong.
jkletzien
We haven't yet, but this thread did catch my eye. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=6&t=595944&highlight=MAX+2008+Stable I guess it depends on who you believe....
Dave Buchhofer
I would just check with Nextlimit and Glu3D guys, as they're historically not the fastest to update their stuff I've been using 08 for some smaller projects to test so far and its been running perfectly here. (Once you get rid of the new select by name crap) I do find it very noticeably faster in the viewport.

mattclinch
yeah they have really messed up the new select by name appearance. How to get rid of that? Go to the location of your CurrentDefaults.ini file - \Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 64bit\enu\defaults\MAX Right at the bottom of the ini file (CurrentDefaults.ini) you will find the string: [scene Explorer] SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=1 Change to: [scene Explorer] SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=0 Save and reopen MAX Never had any issues with 2008. Speed increase was superb on my system and its been solid as a rock stability-wise.

My Max 2008 copy has been sitting on my desk for 4-5 months... never had/took the chance to install it in fear something might be messed up in my workflow... I guess I could/should make the jump now...

SandmanNinja
I remember reading your original tip, but couldn't find it and wasn't sure who posted it or any particular phrase to search for. Now that I have Max 2008, I've copied your tip to my Max Notes section. The new scene picker isn't horrible, but I'm use to the 'old fashioned' way of picking, and I think the new one is a bit slower. Thanks!
