TWSARCH
I have a lot to learn about architectural visualization. I can’t get my employer to spring for any training so it’s up to me. Can someone suggest how to start learning this stuff? I don’t even really know what software to start with. I currently use architectural desktop and viz render. (self taught on the viz render)so I guess viz or max would be the place to start.
JamesTaylor
best place to start would be by posting your current work for critique / advice (if you have work ongoing at the moment). You get many pointers and ideas on what to improve that way. The specific software you use shouldn't really matter. The various top end packages are all capable of producing great results, but it is how someone uses them to create the great work that matters. Viz or max would be an ideal place to start, both also ship with Mental Ray so you'll have access a GI based renderer straight off, at no extra cost if you want to follow that route. After they are installed start cracking out some images and posting them here for people to look at, thats basically how i started... my 1st posts on here were shocking but people took the time to offer help and point me in the right direction. Take peoples advice on board and keep working on or try another image and you'll keep improving!!

Sawyer
Ok yeah this is a great site. You need to look here and post here but take a class. Take a gnomon class or a community college class or one of Brians classes. I have learned almost everything I know by trial and error and it takes a really long time and I can give away almost all of the secrets it took me years to learn in an afternoon. Take anything, take a monster modeling class or a game texture class - take a photoshop class. It will get you there sooner and better than just posting here will do. Nic H
get a 3dmax trial and the gnonomology 3dmax fundamentals quicktime. cheap quick and effective way to learn the basics. i wouldnt be fussed focusing only arch visualization, i think its the best to get a broad base understanding before focusing on architectual stuff, i know I wish I had started that way rather than from archiecture into 3d.
