Nic H
Would save time as I often end having to group sets of objects so I can merge them easily. Id rather merge in a layer set Maybe there is already a way to do this? Sounds like a really simple 'feature'!

iridescence
Would be so helpful!! Not that I use layers so often but on big projects they certainly save a lot of time.

Camby1298
It would be a helpful category in the merge dialog box. Until then, I use Christopher Grants Script which Copy/pastes to file (the script can be found somewhere here on CGArchitect but can be found on www.scriptspot.com ). Its free and I probably use the script more than anyother. So you can select your objects by layer, copy to a file (using the script), then move on to your new file, and paste from your file (using the script). DavidR
absolutely, can't beleive Max doesn't have this. I have to open a scene, save selected, and merge that new file. What a pain.
alias_marks
Don't know if this is worth while, but thought I'd share my workflow. Instead of grouping objects I try my best to batch rename objects, using the batch rename. Which I've shortcutted to Shift-R (*making it easier to merge them by object names later on). Started working more with layers recently, but have found if I'm effective with my object naming from the get go, I don't have to bother with layers too much. Theirs pros and cons obviously, but for what it's worth...
