Hi...

Here's a render I did of some PVC "T" Pipes on a table or desk, with floorplans and a ruler to make it look more 'realistic'.

Took it into Photoshop to adjust the Gamma.

Rendered with Mental Ray, Medium quality pre-set, A&D materials for the PVC pipes and tabletop, 1024x768 (resized to 640x480 to fit the size restrictions on the upload). The floor plans are a BMP, and the ruler is a BMP diffuse map with a gray scale displacement map. I used an HDRI map for the environment and a copy of the same for the lighting (instanced to a skylight). I was hoping the handwriting on the floor plans would make it more realistic. I used two separate MR Spotlights - one for diffuse lighting and one to control the specular level.

I explain the scene as if a Builder is checking some PVC pipes against specs on the plans.

Interested in C&Cs on lighting, shadows and composition.

-Joel

PS: I just like modeling T-Pipes... ;)

NOTE: I used a LightProbe for an HDRI and it has a very strong BLUE colour for some void areas. That's why there is some blue reflecting off the top of the red PVC pipe. I've turned it off for the next render.

sorry friend, don`t think it`s interesting picture.

try to add some reflection on table. chage table texture. it looks like floor. add some bump.

for T things try use frenel or fade raflection.

may be more contrast and colored lighting setup? like cold blue from left and warm orange from right? don`t use hdri for reflection. use light for reflection.

object rendering is very interesting part of vis. it very seams to studio photo.

I like the HDR one better, even if it's less correct. I recognize that table wood :) - it's more of a floor material though, you should swap it out. Also try using bump and glossiness maps to make the table a bit scratched - right now it looks like somebody left their stuff on the brand new wood floor of a new house (and the contractor should have cleaned that up).

As far as materials and lighting goes, it looks really nice. Agree also that the table looks like floor. Are wooden rules standard at 15"? Looks odd... So used to 12" plus a bit over hang for banged up edges... you could try and wrinkle the plans a bit too, pretty perfect for a construction set. do t pipes come in red / yellow? Never seen them that way.

I took the comments into consideration and made the following changes:

Changed the wood material

Changed the PVC pipes so they are white, not so shiny, and can connect to other pipes with a flare

Added some wrinkles to the floor plan (fractal noise 2% to the displacement channel and 10% to the BMP channel)

Thanks again everyone.

i think i would prefer that you change the description to "pvc pipes, ruler, and plans on a floor" rather than change the table material - i like the original wood better. i think the scale of the wood is out of scale on the large side. oak?

Hey Herbert,

After I did it, I felt like it was a floor we were looking at.

The ruler is an image I snagged from the internet, but figured out why it looked 'weird'. It's a tape measure!

Feeling under the weather today, so no 3DS for me.

Thanks for the comments - I appreciate them
