IES renders with weird dark shapes

I have a rather large scene with 6 downlights. When I render using IES lights I get weird shapes of darker areas...like shadows but its an error for sure. They dont appear with vray spheres or regular spots.

 

The scene was working fine but as I added and edited my geometry the just appeared. It looks like a poly error (?) not sure. I had to start a new scene and merge what I needed. Renders fine the then wham .... i get it in new scene.

 

Some of the IES lights no longer throw the pattern on the wall either. Vray settings are all pretty much default. I deleted IES set and merged the same set from previous copies...renders one or 2 fine then they appear again. And with GI on very dark too.

 

Auto exp controls w/ GI on and I get dark renders...w/ Logarithmic I get GI but nasty shapes are still there.
