ahmon
I have a quad core and a dual core. When i render with just the quad it takes 3.5 hours and when i use dr with both it takes close to 5 hours. Could this be because all my materials and files are on a external hard drive connected to the quad core but it is mapped so both have it. Should i be using a hard drive connected to my router or even another computer that is used only for storage? Would this help? Quad is 2.4 Dual is 2.0 Thanks for any advice given. tecton3d
how much RAM is the scene using when you render? Off the cuff, and admittedly not knowing much about V-Ray, it sounds like your rendering machine is running out of RAM which will destroy a rendering pipeline... no matter how many, or few, machines you have. having the scene mapped to the external hd isn't ideal since performance is slower than a hd connected to the mobo but i don't expect that is the root of your problem. Try moving the scene folder to the local hd, render at a lower resolution, and see if that changes anything. you may have better luck post this over on the technical forum prost
alex3d
i work with all my textures on an external intel nas (the ship nas), of course conected in a gigb network using a semi-pro cisco switch, is a rocket external usb hard drive sucks if you are trying to get acsess from more than one computer at the same time.
