Derek Forreal
hi. i'm trying to follow the lighting part of this tutorial (http://area.autodesk.com/index.php/tutorials/tutorial_index/exterior_scene_part_3_lighting/) and i'm a bit stuck. have been searching for a while now but can't find what i need so here are my problems: i can't get any light into the scene and i think i have checked/unchecked all the boxes. is the skydome considered a direct light? i have created a semi-dome, flipped the normals and applied a vraylightmtl to it with a bitmap mapped to the color channel - is this correct? the tutorial says that the dome/bitmap should be visible in the viewport. this isn't the case for me. how do i get the map to show so i can rotate it properly? just to be clear, i have uv mapped the dome and it looks right if i 'test' map it with a std vraymat. thanks in advance
foxlee
If it is the tutorial from neoscape ( not sure, never been able to log into the area), it has really helped me. Click on the bitmap slot in the Vraylightmtl then click the checkered show map in viewport icon. You also need a direct light with vray shadows in this solution to act as sunlight. The ambient light you get from this method is great and strong ,just keep on experimenting with it. all those tutorials are great.
Derek Forreal
foxlee, yes the tutorial is a neoscape one. thanks for the advice - i was looking for the 'show map' button and didn't realise it was on the bitmap page of the material. got it showing now... i couldn't get any ambient light coming from the image, although the image was reflecting... will try again tonight especially as you say it's worth it. i'm pretty chuffed with the results i'm getting with hdris but would like to try this technique too. unrelated - got a few e-mails telling me my thread had been deleted but obviously it's still here - anyone know what's up?
