daytime rendering to a night time one

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've done this a few times when deadlines are tight and the client want both. Night light is not very different from day. The moon gives a fainter light than the sun and shadows are blurry. The light from the moon has a silver tint and the ambient light is very faint and dark - meaning colours tend to disapear or fade.

To fake this in PS:

Take the day render and make a duplicate layer.

Desaturate the duplicate layer a little (not completely) and play with the curves (Ctrl M on PC) to make it darker and give it a blueish tint.

This is now your basic night render without lighting. If you add a mask to the duplicate layer you can paint in parts where light would be. This will reveal the rendering underneath and give the illusion of these parts being lit.

Hope this helps
