SandmanNinja
I use to have a D70 as my "front seat camera" - I'd keep it handy in case something sprang out and caught my attention while driving. Good camera. Not a D300, but it's not meant to be.

Elliot
Jeff Congratulations on your D3. I have the D300 and I seriously thinking of getting the D3. These cameras are somewhat different and complimentary to each other. I have kept the old ones D70, D80 and D200. At one time I though there was too many cameras but my daughter keeps taking them away.... We have almost duplicated all the lenses. It may not me a bad idea to keep the D70. The D3 is to big to carry around. I have a small point and shoot Canon which I like to take with me. It is small and light. My next lens is going to be the 400mm F 2.8 VR or the 500mm. I have convinced myself that I need that lens. The 70-200mm F2.8 with either the TC 1.4 or the TC 1.7 is great. That is a heavy configuration. The photo bellow is from about 150 feet away at a high ISO. Regards Elliot
Jeff Mottle
Hey Elliot, Yes, I have a small Point and Shoot as well. Even with the D70 I found there were certain times I did not want to carry a ton of photo gear. I have a Powershot 850IS. I don't want to keep the D70 though as the D3 is more than enough. Ernest Burden III
the D3 is more than enough. I just read some D3 reviews and specs. More than enough, indeed! I've got to get me one of them. The long ISO sensitivity, RAW mode from a 14bit sensor and decent near-IR are good for doing infra-red photography. I'm hopeful it can be done without tearing out the internal hotmirror filter. That's put in to remove UV and IR, and I want the IR. The leveling indicator will be great for shooting architecture. There's so much to love about that camera. The price isn't one of them, but good toys don't come cheap. Enjoy it!
Elliot
Jeff I am very happy with my D300. I got the D300 on Nov 21 of last year. The D3 was not available at that time. The second reason is for the 1.5 magnification factor. I like the ISO sensitivity. The D3 is even more sensitive. In a few weeks I will get the D3. These cameras compliment each other. I have also been tempted to get a Canon 5D. A friend has one and the photos are very good. The lenses is another story. We have a bunch of lenses. Last year I built a studio for my photos and that has worked very good. My Point and Shoot is a Canon SD750. It is a nice little camera. Keep us posted on your progress.
