I'm having trouble with Max 2008 64 bit running the Direct3d driver with Win XP 64.

I thought it was DirectX and updated it to version 9.c (i hear things can go wrong here, and I'm still not convinced that it's running perfectly although Run:dxdiag says everything is ok)

I thought it could have been my graphics card, ATI Radeon X1950Pro and updated the drivers, but to no avail. So i have just upgraded to a ATI FireGL V5600 and the problem STILL hasn't gone away.

Am i missing something? Direct3D is faster than OpenGL even with my new FireGL card right? Because things seem to work ok in OpenGL....

Any help greatly appreciated.

WE've had the same issue, here on our office, the same config.

Now we are going to try with vista ultimate.

Tell me if OpenGL resolves the issue, anyway try a graphic driver update.

That problem is a big pain in the A*S hheehe

Tell me if you have any update on it

No update to report yet. Just having to live with it. I spent the whole of yesterday trying reinstalls etc. but to no avail. This doesn't happen on a 32bit computer with a lower spec in the office. Maybe it's just XP 64, MAX 2008 and some Directx problem. I would wipe everything and start again, but i don't have time at present....

If i find anything i will of course post it.

Cheers.

Hi, don't worry about reinstalling windows, won't do anything.

We even asked for another graphic card, and the problem was the same.

We have a HP workstation with a Nvidia card, XP 64 bits, Max 2008 and vray, what do you have?

best regards

Have you guys tried the Maxtreme drivers for your Nvidia graphics cards? Its a custom driver set that is designed specifically to improve MAX's "performance" on Nvidia cards. We use it here in the office, and I generally notice about a 25% - 40% increase in overall viewport performance. The ability to switch viewport texture resolution without restarting is handy too.

Thanks very much for the suggestion Mechadus, but sadly I'm using and ATI FireGL V5600 card. So it's not compatible. The installation disc did come with an optimized MAX driver, but I've been unable to install it and from looking at ATI's website it appears to have been discontinued. Every time i tried it it said it can only load when logged in as the administrator, well i was and always am in administrator mode, tried an number of things but there was no installing this MAX driver.

In response to Itam my set up is... a self build.

Mother board - Asus P5K Premium/WiFi-AP, iP35, S 7

Power Supply - 770W HiperPower Type-R MKII, HPU-5K

OS - Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64bit

Fan - Zalman CNPS9700-NT NVIDIA Tritium

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 G0 SLA

HD - 74 Gb Western Digital WD740ADFD Rap 10,000rpm

Monitor - Dell 30 inch wide screen

Was - 512MB Sapphire RX1950Pro, PCI-E(x16

Now - 512MB ATI FireGL V5600 PCI-E

I also have a 3dConnexion SpacePilot too (which I couldn't live without).

Shine any light on anything...? Anyone...?

Thinking about it, i could always send this new card back and get an Nvidia if it would solve the issue. Only got it yesterday.......

Cheers,

Ant

I've tried some different drivers. I have the latest version IP64Eng6.20.182.0 for my IntelliMouse. Tried the IP64Eng and it was the same, tried the IP55_64eng and that failed to even work, had some error, had to use the Wacom Tablet to get out of that problem.

All ears as to which one you're using Fadi...

Maybe i should just buy a new mouse. Any recommendations? Or should i get a big A3 Wacom and permantly ditch a mouse altogether. I hear the pro's all use tablets there must be a good reason for it.

I just downloaded this installed and ran it in max and I just got an error that it was using the null setting for driver. This has been a problem with this driver for months now. I'm using a 32bit OS with dual quadro fx4500 and Max 2008 Anyone any ideas why it doesn't work anymore?

Hello guys

i am still using the intelli mouse but switched the driver from within windows to a regular mouse (sorry my cousin instructed me on how to do it, but i am afraid when it comes to configuring a pc i am quite hopeless )

Problem fixed, thanks guys!

Swapped to the old driver again, and the problem changed to hiding other menus in MAX. So it was definitely the mouse.

Just went a bought the new Microsoft Habu mouse aimed at gamers with 7 macro programmable buttons. TOTALLY SORTED!

Working better than ever... and now i need hardly touch my keyboard. :D:D
